New Website For Watershed Landscape

The Bigger Boat has recently launched a new website for The Watershed Landscape Project. The WL project is a 3-year Heritage Lottery campaign, managed by Pennine Prospects.

Anna Marshall from Pennine Prospects said: “The Watershed Landscape is all about helping understand, care for, enjoy and make use of the unique and inspiring South Pennines upland landscape. At the heart of the WL project is the desire to encourage people to engage with, interact with, understand and enjoy the uplands landscape.”

After a rigorous tender process The Bigger Boat crew were appointed to design and develop the new content managed (CMS) website.

The new websites was designed to reflect the rugged and dramatic landscape, whilst being visually appealing to the target demographic. The site includes social media tools to help propagate content as well as features like; you tube video, flickr and Twitter feeds. The bespoke built ‘Interactive Map’ allows users to view and interact with the project area, including points of interest and events. User interaction is further promoted through comment fields on project pages, where people can talk directly to WL’s resident archaeologist. Resources for education further the reach of the WL project to a younger audience.

The website was built using TBB’s easy-to-use CMS system giving the client ‘edit as you browse’ functionality, in conjunction with the ability to add and remove pages, locations, video, images, slideshows, and comment blocks.

"We've been really impressed with the Bigger Boat team who have delivered a website which is not only visually appealing but also helps our key audiences stay up-to-date with how the project is progressing in an interactive way. The Bigger Boat have helped us explore using social media to drive new users to the site and the CMS used is simple enough for us to keep everything updated ourselves which was one of our key requirements. As our project covers such a huge area on the ground and we are a small team, we wanted to make sure that the website was capable of functioning as our primary hub for information about this special landscape - we are delighted with the results!"
