This summer, we were asked to pitch for the design and marketing for this year’s Halifax Comedy Festival. The festival features some of comedy’s real heavyweights this year, including Jimmy Carr, Al Murray and Romesh Ranganathan to name just a few. With these big names on board, it was important that our concept reflected the scale of the festival.
We pitched three fun-packed ideas, but everyone’s favourite was our pastiche of the Japanese cult classic Godzilla. If you’re familiar with the Halifax Comedy Festival, then you’ll know that the Festival always features an alpaca. We thought we could have some fun and create a really memorable graphic language by swapping the fiery Godzilla for a furry giant alpaca, which was a nod to the big names in comedy that will appear at this year’s festival, and it also gave us the opportunity to feature some of the iconic venues that the comedians will be performing at.
We created an ethereal landscape of green Yorkshire hills, black and white buildings and a bespectacled alpaca. This worked across posters, website and the official comedy festival program… After all, why wouldn’t an alpaca wear safety goggles, right?
