Shipmate Spotlight: Carrie Webb

Senior writer Carrie joined the crew last year to help build out our content offering. She’s under the spotlight and tells all about how she came to be part of The Bigger Boat and what she gets up to outside of work.

What quote do you live your life by?

The diet starts tomorrow.

10 years ago, what did you think you’d be doing now?

Writing. I always knew I’d write. Since I was 11 years old, my whole education and career has been geared toward English language, literature and journalism. Once I’d qualified, I suppose what I didn’t realise 10 years ago was that at some point in the future I’d take the side step into digital marketing.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t live without?

My crazy toddler and the joy and chaos that comes with her.

What are you listening to/ reading/ watching at the moment?

I love Susan Lewis’ books so I’m on with another of hers at the moment – One Minute Later. I’m still obsessed with the Big Little Lies soundtrack (amazing series) but also any workout playlist on Spotify as I try (pretty unsuccessfully usually) to coax myself to the gym. I’m in between a couple of series – 13 Reasons Why and just finishing up with the final series of The Affair.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

It’s all about family and friends for me at the minute. When I’m not working, I can usually be found at the park or shudder soft play – generally doing anything a two year old loves doing.

What’s your favourite thing about agency life?

There isn’t too much dissimilarity between journalism and content marketing – both have storytelling at heart and a need to translate it into compelling, engaging content. What I love about agency life is the opportunity to bring so many brands’ stories to life – and the variety that comes with that.

What’s your previous working experience?

After stints of work experience at various newspapers, I settled as a feature writer at the Press Association for many years, penning articles for regional and national titles. I then made the move into digital marketing and took up a content writer role at Leeds agency Stickyeyes, before joining The Bigger Boat in 2018.

What are you working on at the minute that we should know about?

It’s a really exciting time at The Bigger Boat at the minute. I’m that busy I just can’t seem to write quick enough – and I love it! As well as all the amazing creative work happening on accounts like Little Tikes, CheckFire and Celloglas, we’re about to kick off a huge project with another big-name brand. Watch this space! I’m also putting a lot of work in behind the scenes too – The Bigger Boat turns 10 next year so there’s no better time to be working on our own brand.

What are you excited about during the next year at TBB?

From a TBB point of view, the 10th birthday and the opportunity it brings for content is pretty exciting. Personally, I’m looking forward to developing our content offering and we have some exciting ideas lined up for our clients.
