Welcome aboard Danny Oliver
Danny Oliver recently joined the crew as senior account manager and wasted no time getting to grips with his clients and forming strong working relationships. Here, Danny shares the story of how he came onboard and what he hopes to achieve at The Bigger Boat.
I originally moved to Yorkshire from the Wirral to study a forensic and analytical chemistry degree. After two years, I realised it wasn’t for me and dropped out to become a DJ and live music promoter for NME Magazine. This stark change led me into an extensive DJing career spanning 15 years, covering great nightlife venues such as Factory251, Digital Newcastle and Oporto Leeds, and many international events. Main highlights include Glastonbury, Beniccasim, Download, Ibiza Rocks and Reading and Leeds Festival. Currently, I stage-manage a number of major UK music festivals and absolutely love it.
While working and DJing events with bands and club nights, I decided to undertake a marketing degree culminating in a live music festival for the Mayor of Huddersfield’s charity. After graduating, I became the group marketing manager for a large UK hospitality company, primarily overseeing exciting new venue launches.
After two years I was asked to become tour manager for an international artist and it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. This progressed to artist management and I became heavily involved in music industry marketing. Here, I worked on artist release cycle strategy and implementation, developing partnerships with record labels and digital service providers such as Spotify and Amazon. Today, I continue to advise musicians on their release strategy and provide guidance wherever I can.
My previous jobs and career to date have involved lots of different skills and I love to learn, so I’m excited to get more in-depth with the team on web development, PPC & SEO, while chipping in on the creative and design side where I can. I’ve dived straight in at the deep end at The Bigger Boat, working with toy products of all kinds! I’m a proactive guy and have loved getting stuck into the projects over my first three weeks. And, after spending so much time as a freelancer where human connection can be lacking, I’m hugely looking forward to being in the office and collaborating with the team.
In my spare time I enjoy hiking, yoga, music production and playing whenever I can, along with home renovating!
