Shipmate spotlight: Ruby Ribbons.

What quote do you live your life by?
“Nothing lasts forever”. I actually got this as a tattoo (yes in my younger and slightly sillier years). At the time everyone said “oh that sounds negative” but it’s meant to be more of a ‘live in the moment, it won’t last forever’ kind of message – I definitely live my life by that anyway!

Ten years ago, what did you think you’d be doing now?
I wanted to be an explorer. I always collected old maps! And any new maps I found I used to tea stain them to make them look like old maps. Then a lawyer, then a mid-wife – clearly very ambitious and I’m sure at one point I wanted to be all three at the same time.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t live without?
Mayo!! I literally have mayonnaise with EVERYTHING. It’s even been known for me to have a mayonnaise sandwich – with an extra side of mayo.

What are you listening to/ reading/ watching at the moment?
I’m just about to borrow a book from a friend ‘The Other Woman’, to stop me from scrolling through my phone before bed. It’s a real pet hate of mine at the moment. I’ve also started watching Breaking Bad again as my boyfriend has never seen it and because I love Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman). He’s amazing.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
At the moment it seems to be exercise… I never ever thought I would see the day I’d say that. I’ve recently started playing netball again – which I love – and also joined a cross fit class, which is really fun. And of course, I enjoy a glass of vino on a weekend like everyone else my/any age!

What’s your favourite thing about agency life?
Do I sound OTT if I say everything?! I love the collaborative working style. There’s always lots of different projects happening that create a need for different skills. Everyone that works here is easy going but hard working and we actually love what we do so it makes it easy to come to work every morning.

What’s your previous working experience?
Before and during university I did a lot of part-time restaurant work. It was quite tiring, studying and working, but also really fun at the same time. I loved the fast-paced nature of it all and I think it really shaped me as a person before I started my professional career – there were a lot of ‘character building’ moments throughout!

Post-university I started working for a clothing company based in Huddersfield where I oversaw its new website launch. I managed the ecommerce site and marketing thereafter. It was a great first step into the world of digital marketing. When I came to The Bigger Boat, I knew almost straight away that agency life was for me as opposed to working client-side, but that’s just personal preference.

What are you working on at the minute that we should know about?
We’re working on loads at the moment – it’s a really busy time of year for us. The most exciting projects I’m involved in currently have to be preparing Celloglas for Packaging Innovations. We’re heading down to London to support them at the show which is so exciting! I’m also organising a Christmas campaign for bead supplier Beadhouse to help promote its children’s jewellery making kits -‘Pipkits’. They’re amazing.

What are you excited about during the next year at TBB?
Personally, I’m excited about continuing to learn and currently applying for a masters course (MSc in Digital Marketing). I feel like I’m still learning new things every day even after working here for over a year. For TBB I’m excited for us to continue growing as a team – we recently appointed an amazing copywriter who has already had such a big effect on the overall flow of work. I’m also excited for our next works ‘doo’ – clay pigeon shooting and a FOUR-course meal. Yes they do know how to treat us!
